16 Days of Activism

To mark the 2021 16 Days of activism against Sexual and gender-based violence, Equity Watch Initiative in partnership with UN Women hosted a one hour  phone-in- radio program, one day training workshop on violence prevention; titled: Empowerment for Actions against Sexual and Gender-based violence and a road walk at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  The radio programme which took place at Lion FM, 91.1stereo, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, featured Dr. Chiemezie Atama, Founding Director of Equity Watch Initiative (E-WIN) and Mrs. Uchenna Ifeabunike, a member of the Organization, to create awareness on the issue of sexual and Gender Based Violence (GBV) and other forms of abuse. The second phase of the program which was the training workshop centered on Empowerment Self Defense (ESD) which is a violence prevention program that focus on empowering the female students to prevent/respond to sexual and gender-based violence. The workshop focused on the Principles of ESD, Human Traffic Symbols, Consent, Boundary setting, Body language and facial expressions, Strikes and Releases, Indicators of an abusive persons and Empathy.

This was followed by a road walk to mark the international event. The campaign tour (road walk) was carried out with the University environment creating awareness about the issue of sexual and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) particularly sexual harassment and abuse.
